Temple Hillel General Board Positions 2010-2011

Please read through the following position descriptions and decide which one you are best suited for.

Social Programming Committee

  1. Greek Life Chair: Create programming for all Jewish students involved in Greek life on campus.
  2. Recreational Chair: Create recreational programs through various sports related activities.
  3. Upperclassmen chair: Create programs to keep upperclassmen involved in the Jewish community.
  4. Create you own position.

Tzedek – Social Action Committee

  1. Advocacy Chairperson: Will organize events which deal with educating the Philadelphia Hillel community about our causes and why they are important! Will be the point person for an event with a speaker from the Philadelphia area.
  2. Service Project Chairperson: Will be in charge of community service events in the building and around the city. This person will assist in finding and arranging creative and stimulating events for the Tzedek board!
  3. Philanthropy Chairperson: Will organize events which raise money for the organizations we are working with this year! Will be the leader of a large scale fundraising event!
  4. Create you own position.

Religious Life Committee

  1. Reform Community Coordinator: Responsible for helping to plan Reform programming, social events and finding Reform leaders for the Reform Minyan as well as reaching out to Reform Jewish students who do not regularly come to Hillel.
  2. Conservative Community Coordinator: Responsible for helping to plan Conservative programming, social events and finding Conservative leaders for the Conservative Minyan as well as reaching out to Conservative Jewish students who do not regularly come to Hillel.
  3. Orthodox Community Coordinator: Responsible for helping to plan Orthodox programming, and social event as well as reaching out to Orthodox Jewish Students who do not regularly come to Hillel. Will potentially help to start up a regular Orthodox minyan for Shabbat at Hillel.
  4. Education Chair: Responsible for helping to plan educational events both formal and informal, also responsible for helping with holiday programming.
  5. Shabbat Chair: Responsible for making sure all minyanim at Hillel have leaders, responsible for finding leaders for Kiddish and HaMotzie, responsible for making sure everything, but the physical set up of the rooms is ready for Shabbat.

Israel Awareness Committee

  1. Education chair: This should be someone who has a fair amount of knowledge about Israel and the conflict.  This person would be responsible for things such as bringing in speakers, putting a study group together (ex. for Hebrew classes).
  2. Culture chair: This person is responsible for researching and educating themselves and others about Israeli culture.  This person will run events that deal with the cultures that make up Israeli culture, Israeli music, food, media.
  3. Politics chair: This person is responsible for providing weekly updates in Israeli news and holding events that teach people about how Israeli politics work.
  4. Create you own position.


Presidential Committee

  1. Temple Student Government Representative: Responsible for attending Temple Student Government meetings where a representative from Hillel is required, responsible for relaying information gathered at those meetings to Executive committee.
  2. Organizational Liaison: Responsible for helping to cultivate positive relationships with other student organizations. 
  3. Communications Chair: Responsible for making sure that all communication runs smoothly between all peoples concerned with Hillel.
