Tzedek Philly Signature Programs

MITZVAH MANIA:  Join Tzedek Philly on November 1st, 2009 as we participate in the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia’s signature social action event.  The goal of Mitzvah Mania is “to engage Jewish volunteers in hands-on mitzvah projects that benefit the Jewish community and the community at large.”  This event is a wonderful introduction to the Tzedek Philly community.   This year you will have two options for participation: Help alleviate food insecurity among elderly and impoverished members of our community by participating in Souper Bowl on your local campus, or participate in the Fairmount Park Clean Up project at Morris Park (Overbrook). Check back soon for more information.

ALTERNATIVE SPRING BREAKS:  Use your Spring Break to change the world! Participate in an Alternative Spring Break with Tzedek Philly!  Tzedek Philly is your gateway to immersive social justice experiences.  Check back soon for information on the trips being offered for your campus.

TZEDEK PHILLY COMMUNITY ORGANIZING GRANTS:
The Tzedek Philly Community Organizing Grant offers grants of up to $500 for student-designed community organizing and social justice focused projects. The Community Organizing Grant is aimed specifically at Jewish students interested in furthering social justice through engaging Jewish and non-Jewish students in conversation about and action for social justice and social change. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, through February 5th. Qualified applicants will be invited for short interviews prior to selection for the grant.
TZEDEK PHILLY FELLOWSHIP:
The Tzedek Philly fellowship is geared toward Jewish students interested in gaining skills and mentoring in community organizing while developing their understanding of Jewish traditions related to social justice. Fellows will be trained in community organizing techniques and will develop a plan to use these skills to bring greater awareness of social justice issues to the Jewish community and general communities on Temple’s campuses.
Fellows who fulfill all of the requirements of the fellowship, including attending all learning sessions and completing all relevant written evaluations, will be award a $150 Tzedek Philly fellowship stipend.

TZEDEK PHILLY ON YOUR CAMPUS:  Each campus in Hillel of Greater Philadelphia has dynamic social justice programming developed for and by its students.  Have an idea for a project?  Want to get involved in an existing project?  Check out the options on your campus!
